Input: Volume R required a cohesive identity that unified its diverse functions under a single brand name. The founders envisioned a multifaceted space that serves as their studio, holding meetings with clients, as the archive of their window display work, as a design store for objects and vinyl and also as a gallery for selected events. The client’s key request was to retain the ‘R’ within a circle, ensuring a distinct reference to their name.
Output: We developed a dynamic system that seamlessly integrates Volume R's functions into one entity through a structured yet adaptable approach.
Volume R is a Design Studio, Archive, Store & Gallery. The identity extends into sub-logos for each branch: Volume R Studio, Volume R Archive, Volume R Store, and Volume R Gallery, visually reinforcing the space’s multifaceted nature.
At its core, Volume R is a Design Studio & Archive with a carefully curated Store presenting a selection of Objects, Print, and Vinyl. The place also operates as a Gallery hosting Exhibitions and Events. This foundational statement shapes the brand’s typography, allowing each activity to have its own distinct yet interconnected identity.
A key design challenge was ensuring the typography and identity subtly complemented the store’s many colors—an essential consideration, given the vibrant mix of design objects, vinyl, and books on display. The result is a system that remains visually balanced while allowing the store’s curated selection to take center stage.
The space uses language to "speak" to its audience, creating a visually compelling creative world. The outcome is a visual and verbal system that evolves with the space—modern, enduring, and true to Volume R’s vision.
